Chief Economist Qian Keming meets Peruvian Vice Minister Montenegro

    MOA Chief Economist Qian Keming met with Mr. Jorge Luis Montenegro, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI) of the Republic of Peru on Sept.4, 2014. The two sides exchanged views on deepening pragmatic bilateral cooperation in agriculture.

  

     

  

    At the meeting, Qian noted that China and Peru have maintained friendly cooperation for a long time, and made considerable progress in bilateral agricultural cooperation. At present, China and Peru enjoy sound cooperation mechanisms, deepening S&T exchange and stable growth in agricultural trade. He stressed that China stands ready to cement agricultural cooperation with Peru on the principle of mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.

  

     

  

    To this end, Qian put forward the following proposal for future cooperation:

  

     

  

    Firstly, to give full play to existing agricultural cooperation mechanisms and to create enabling conditions for practical cooperation; 

  

     

  

    Secondly, to strengthen agricultural S&T cooperation so as to boost agricultural development in both countries; 

  

     

  

    Third, to tap opportunities posed by the China-Peru Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to expand agricultural trade; and 

  

     

  

    Fourthly, to facilitate two-way investment in agriculture for joint development.

  

     

  

    Montenegro expressed his pleasure in seeing the progress made in bilateral agricultural cooperation, and agreed with Qian on hisproposal

  

     

  

    Montenegro stated that there is great potential in China-Peru agricultural cooperation, and the Peruvian side sees highly of the agricultural cooperation with China. For further strengthening bilateral partnership, particularly in the agriculture sector, the Peruvian President and the Agricultural Minister will attend APEC meetings to be held in Beijing in the coming weeks.
